DirectDrop runs a temporary HTTP server on your device (port 8080) that allows a browser on the same local Wi-Fi network to download or upload files. The connection is established using a QR code or a local IP address displayed on screen. No internet connection is required or used for file transfers.
We do not collect, store, transmit, or have access to any of the following:
DirectDrop stores the following preferences in your device's local app storage. This data never leaves your device:
You can clear this data at any time by clearing the app's storage in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.
When you share or receive files, your device's local IP address is shown on screen so another device on the same network can connect. The IP addresses of connecting devices are briefly displayed in the app UI for your information but are not logged, stored, or transmitted anywhere.
The file transfer server shuts down automatically when you stop sharing or close the app.
DirectDrop requests access to your files solely to let you select files you wish to share. We do not scan, index, or access any files other than those you explicitly choose to transfer.
DirectDrop does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics libraries, or crash-reporting services that transmit data externally. The app is distributed through:
